A young Angus man has been banned from the road after being caught driving more than three times the legal alcohol limit.
Daniel Thomson from Arbroath appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court to face charges alleging he drove while drunk in the city.
The court heard the 23-year-old had been out drinking in Aberdeen city centre on April 9 with his partner when she ended their relationship.
Shortly after being cut adrift, Thomson made the decision to drive the two minutes from her flat to his friend’s house elsewhere in the city.
But en route he was stopped by police and officers found he had 76 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The legal limit for driving is just 22 mics.
The court heard Thomson was stopped in the Market Street area of the city by officers on routine patrol.
He appeared in the dock in person yesterday to admit one charge of driving while over the legal alcohol limit.
Representing the repeat offender, solicitor Gregor Kelly said his client had previously been disqualified for failing to provide a breath test.
Entering a plea of guilty on his client’s behalf, he said Thomson, of Rowan Path, Arbroath, was of good character.
Mr Kelly told that Thomson had been trying to apply to join the RAF and had achieved good results in the aptitude tests.
However, he said the air force was “not likely to look at him now” following his most recent conviction for drink driving.
The case was heard by Sheriff Alison Stirling who warned Thomson about his behaviour.
She disqualified him for three years and fined him a total of £600.
If he completes a rehabilitation course he will get a six-month ban reduction.
