Pechin’ pooches and their equally puggled owners enjoyed Glamis Castle at its springtime best in a canine craze sweeping the country. Almost 200 owners and their pets converged on Angus for a Fur Nations event pitting participant countries against each other in the first visit of the exciting sport of CaniX to the 600-year-old Angus landmark.
Every shape and size of four-legged friend was involved in the event in which dogs on a harness accompany their running owner around a cross-country course, varying in distance from 2 kilometres for junior up to 10km.
Organiser Richard Cook said: “We’ve been doing it for about 12 years but over the last five years or so it has become really popular.
“It’s a great way to keep fit and get out and about with your dog and we have every type of dog taking part.
“This is the second leg of the Fur Nations and things are very close between England and Scotland – there are some very fast runners up here. “
“It looks like it may come down to the English leg at the end of May, so we’ll see how many Scottish runners decided to come down.
He added: “Glamis invited us up and the castle has been really supportive of the event.
“The grounds are absolutely stunning and we’ve been given access to all of them.
“They actually had to cross the Glamis Burn at one point. Everybody came back with huge smiles on their faces after taking part.
