A Montrose man has officially been crowned Brain of Britain.
Mike Clark saw off three other competitors in Monday’s final of the popular Radio 4 quiz to lift the famous trophy.
The driver, who has worked for Oxfam and Voluntary Action Angus, battled his way through four months of heats and beat 47 hopefuls from across the UK to the have his name added to the roll of champions in the game’s 63rd year.
Mike wowed the audience with his knowledge of herring and jazz music to beat the three other finalists by three points, with an impressive final score of 12.
He beat Jane Cooper, a teacher and writer from Edinburgh, Ian Fennell, a software developer from Kidderminster, and John Webley, a dentist from Southampton, to the prize.
Brain of Britain is the longest—running broadcast quiz show in Britain. Some champions have gone on to enjoy their own broadcasting careers, with 1965 winner Bob Crampsey becoming a well-loved sports broadcaster in Scotland.
Host Russell Davies said: “Many congratulations to Mike Clark, who is officially the 63rd Brain of Britain champion.”
