A body has been found in the search for a missing Angus pensioner.
Police said on Tuesday afternoon the body of a man had been found on the beach at St Cyrus, north of Montrose.
The family of 78-year-old John Flett, who was the subject of a missing person plea issued earlier on Tuesday, have been informed.
Police said: “Around 1:30pm on Tuesday October 20 police received a report a man’s body had been found on a beach in St Cyrus.
“Emergency services are in attendance and officers believe it to be 78-year-old John Flett, reported missing from Montrose this morning.
“A formal identification has still to take place, however, Mr Flett’s family has been notified.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Worried family members found the OAP’s home in the town empty on Tuesday morning, triggering the local search.
Police had said John was last seen around 4.30pm on Monday in Wellington Park, Montrose.
They said his disappearance was out of character.
