A man was rushed to hospital after being struck from behind in a night-time attack in Brechin.
The 38-year-old victim sustained injuries to his head after the assault on Montrose Street sometime between 11.30pm on Friday and 3.45am on Saturday.
Police have appealed to the public for information in finding the person responsible.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of what happened is asked to get in touch.
“You can call 101, quoting incident 0543 of 31 October, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
