Mearns pupuls are celebrating the diamond anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Charity (DofE).
Lathallan School, Johnshaven, is getting into the spirit by taking on the DofE Diamond Challenge – a one-off initiative.
The entire senior school from Lathallan – all 135 pupils – will be undertaking a day hike up Ben Nevis on June 10.
Not only is Lathallan School keen to promote outdoor learning, it also has the highest uptake of Duke of Edinburgh pupils in the country.
The DofE Diamond Challenge aims to give everyone a flavour of the life-changing benefits of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Headmaster Richard Toley said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme in its Diamond Jubilee year.
“As the school with the largest percentage of DofE uptake in Scotland, we wanted to combine our passion for outdoor learning with a special event such as this, and taking on Ben Nevis is the perfect challenge.”
Barry Fisher, director of DofE in Scotland will be joining Lathallan School on their ascent.
He said he was “absolutely delighted” to be taking part.
