Arbroath Relay for Life has issued its latest rallying call for more local people to join in the town’s tenth anniversary event on September 17 at Arbroath United Cricket Club.
Relay team Captains Heidi Cathro, Helen Angus and Sharon Stewart got together at the latest team captains’ gathering to highlight their reasons for participating in the major fundraiser.
Sharon who leads the Dancing Dudes & Divas said: “I have lost family and friends to cancer but also I have had family who have beaten cancer and that’s because of cancer research.
“The whole event is a rollercoaster of emotions but it’s an amazing day and I’m there to raise money and walk in memory of those I’ve lost.”
Heidi Cathro added: “I relay to raise money for further cancer research, but I also do it in honour of my big sister, who lost her battle with cancer 18 years ago. I am team captain for Arbroath Musical Society and all of our members have been touched by this illness in some way. Some relay to raise money for someone who is currently battling cancer, but there are also plenty of people who help because it is a good cause and it’s a lot of fun.”
Helen Angus, who captains Angus Allstars, said: “This year’s relay is sure to be extra special with it being the tenth anniversary.
“It will also be my first relay since being discharged from the oncology department five years on from my diagnosis.”
