Monifieth’s annual Medieval Fair and Gala Week has a major new event this year.
On Sunday the first DuneFest Cricket Tournament will take place on the beach, featuring teams from Forfarshire Cricket Club and Angus.
Throughout the gala week, which begins on June 10, there will be a wine-tasting event, pool and dominoes competitions, children’s beach art, a beach hunt, a karaoke evening and a quiz night.
As always the week culminates with the Medieval Fair on Father’s Day, June 19.
The Knights of Monymusk are the stars of the show, and, as well as putting on performances in the main arena, they will also be setting up an encampment with archery, fortune telling, a weapons tent and demonstrations.
The beer tent will be making a return to the fair, as will the Lowland Games, when rival teams from local pubs battle it out in tug-of-war, shot-putting and wellie-boot throwing competitions.
There will also be a marquee dedicated to craft stalls, music on three stages, and public events include a bonnie baby competition, a kids fancy dress competition and a dog show.
The community in Monifieth dates back from the time when Christianity was introduced to the area by St Regulus or St Rule from St Andrews.
A Fair was duly established in his honour.
