Arbroath Academy and Forfar Academy are aiming for glory in Friday’s 2016 Be Your Best Rock Challenge® Scottish Final at the Caird Hall in Dundee.
Teams as small as 20, or as large as 135 students, collaborate with teachers, parents and wider communities to prepare an eight minute performance.
These preparations are undertaken over many weeks and months and showcase an array of skills in dance, drama and design.
Set to a theme of their choice each school’s performance is completely original and can vary from tackling a political or social message, retelling a true event or an entirely imaginative concept.
Eleven Scottish schools will be competing for the title including Arbroath Academy which will perform ‘Wild Things’ and Forfar Academy’s performance of ‘Chains of Egypt’.
“We are delighted to have been chosen to progress through to the finals of Rock Challenge 2016 as one of the wild card entries,” said Christie Morgan from Arbroath Academy.
Pauline Gibb from Forfar Academy said her pupils are really looking forward to the challenge of competing against schools from all over Scotland.
Meanwhile, on Saturday July 2 Arbroath High School will fight it out with schools from across England for the title of Northern Premier Champions.
After winning last year’s Scottish final, Arbroath High automatically qualified for the final at Grimsby Auditorium.
The Rock Challenge® was introduced to the UK in 1996 by Hampshire Constabulary with the aim to help young people enjoy school and live pro-active lives free of alcohol and drugs.
