A Stonehaven pupil who has raised more than £10,000 for CLIC Sargent while his little brother is undergoing cancer treatment has been recognised at an awards ceremony in Aberdeenshire.
Ethan Turnbull, a pupil at Mackie Academy, was awarded the Pupil Voice award at the Inspiring Aberdeenshire Awards.
The annual event, now in its fourth year, celebrate the work of people in the area who support their communities.
There was a joint winner in the best of Kincardine and Mearns category, with Fred Stewart and the Young at Heart Portlethen volunteers sharing the honour.
Fred Stewart is a local historian and has dedicated lots of time and enthusiasm to the local North Kincardine Public Art initiative with a map incorporating culture, heritage and cycle and walk routes.
The Young at Heart volunteers provide a service to older members at the community centre in Portlethen every Wednesday, organising activities including armchair exercises and board games as well as lending an ear to listen to reminiscences.
Aberdeenshire Provost Hamish Vernal said: “The theme for the awards is butterflies and the winners tonight are really flying high in recognition of the support they have given their communities, family and friends.
“We’ve all been inspired by the stories we’ve heard of kind-hearted people who work tirelessly to support others, from young people raising money for causes close to their hearts to those who helped communities during the floods in Aberdeenshire in December and January – all of the winners make Aberdeenshire the great place it is.”
