Montrose Rotary Club’s Citizen of the Year is Joe Wishart.
In the 20 years since he returned to his home town, Joe has become one of the best known and most recognised of its citizens as a result of his charity work and active interest in the life of the community.
Joe was postmaster for many years at Hillside sub-post office and his cheery, positive outlook helped make it the hub of the village.
When he left the post office he became resident and mine host at the Scottish National Trust’s “mud house” at Logie where his hospitality ensured a steady stream of visitors to this historic building.
He was a community councillor and is a member of the Montrose branch of the RNLI, the local Operatic Society and a colourful host for the Montrose Music Festival.
“I am honoured and humbled by the award and will spend the next year extolling the virtues of Montrose and the work of the Rotary Club”, said Joe.
The £200 charity cheque that goes with the award will be given by Joe to The Adam Centre, Montrose’s day care centre.
