A woman has died after an incident in an Angus nightclub.
The female, who is thought to be in her 50s, was rushed to hospital from DeVitos in Arbroath’s Millgate in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called to the popular nightclub shortly before 2am.
The woman was taken to Ninewells Hospital but tragically passed away there.
The tragedy remains under investigation but it is believed there are no suspicious circumstances. The cause of death has not been confirmed.
Police attended De Vitos over the weekend as part of the inquiry.
The Courier understands the victim is connected to a local school and the tragedy happened on the day the Angus schools broke up for the summer holidays.
Police confirmed that they had attended the nightclub just before 2am and inquiries were continuing into the sudden death.
A spokesman said that, as in all such circumstances, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
DeVitos was unavailable for comment.
One local said: “I saw the police and ambulance there, but haven’t heard exactly what happened.
“There was a lot going on, but it’s always busy around 2am when the club closes.”
