A blackspot section of the A90 in Angus will be given a £140,000 upgrade.
The section of the southbound A90 to the north of Forfar at Bogindollo is used by around 21,000 vehicles every day.
A Dundee man died last year after his gritter overturned on the A90 southbound near Bogindollo Farm in freezing conditions.
The accident happened two years after a Forfar teenager was killed in a crash on the A90 at the Bogindollo junction on the northbound carriageway.
In 2009 two men also had a lucky escape after the car they were travelling in left the A90, flipped and caught fire at the Bogindollo turn-off.
BEAR Scotland said the surface now requires upgrading and the investment “will allow any cracks or potholes to be repaired, creating a smoother and safer journey for motorists”.
Andy Thompson of BEAR Scotland said: “These works will repair any surfacing defects, improving this section of road for the safety of motorists.
“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption as much as possible by scheduling the scheme to take place overnight and avoiding working on the busier Friday or Saturday evenings, however we encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
The works between Finavon and Forfar will begin on Sunday over three nights, taking place from 7.30pm to 6.30am.
The improvements are scheduled to be completed by 6.30am on Wednesday with a 10mph convoy system of traffic management in place to ensure the safety of the work force and the travelling public.
This will be lifted outside of working hours.
Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org or twitter @trafficscotland.
Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
Campaigners were previously successful in getting a deceleration lane put in place at the Bogindollo junction at the turn of the century.
