Former MasterChef winner Jamie Scott has said he can’t wait to return to his home town for a major festival.
Jamie will be hosting another of his mouth-watering cookery demonstrations at this year’s weekend-long maritime celebration at Arbroath Harbour on August 13 and 14.
After spending six years learning his craft in Arbroath, Jamie moved to St Andrews joining the Rocca restaurant as Head Chef for four years.
In 2014, he was crowned the winner of BBC MasterChef: The Professionals which saw his culinary skills tested to the limit.
“I’m really looking forward to returning to Arbroath Sea Fest in a couple of weeks,” said Jamie, who recently opened his own restaurant with rooms, The Newport in Fife.
Jamie, who was inspired by his mother and grandmother in the kitchen, made his Sea Fest debut several years ago, when he was a trainee at his parents’ restaurant near Arbroath.
He said: “My fish dishes were very much appreciated at last year’s Sea Fest cookery demo so I’m planning to make a scallop dish and a dish featuring skate, which is an excellent but under-rated fish.
“I regularly have skate on The Newport’s menu and it always proves very popular.”
As well as his cookery demonstration, Jamie will also be judging Sea Fest’s version of another TV favourite – The Great British Bake Off.
“Thanks to the hours I spent watching my gran in her kitchen in Arbroath when I was young, I love baking – and tucking into the final results,” he said.
“My gran was an excellent baker so the bakers who enter this competition have a lot to live up to.”
There will be lots of other foodie treats at Arbroath Sea Fest.
On the afternoon of Saturday, August 13, Hayley Wilkes of WeeCook will be holding free children’s cookery sessions.
As always, on both Saturday and Sunday, there will be a selection of stalls selling first class local produce, food and drink, including freshly caught and prepared shellfish and fish and Arbroath Smokies hot from the traditional barrel.
“I’m a stalwart of Arbroath and always enjoy wandering around Sea Fest looking for, delicious ingredients,” said Jamie.
“My winning MasterChef menu featured Arbroath Smokies and I currently have Lunan Bay Salmon on my menu at The Newport – fresh, seasonal, local food makes all the difference.”
