The main road into an Angus road will remain closed this weekend after a lorry crash.
A HGV smashed into the historic Dalhousie Arch at the southern entrance to Edzell on Thursday.
Police closed the B966, the main road into Edzell, following the crash as the !9th Century landmark was believed to be unstable.
There were no injuries in the collision but the extent of the damage to the arch remains unknown.
Diversions will remain
A diversion via Inchbare was signposted after the crash and remains in place.
A spokesperson for Angus Council said on Friday: “Following the accident yesterday where Edzell Arch was struck and damaged by a vehicle, the road has been closed and a temporary diversion has been set up.
“The arch is being inspected and assessed today and a plan for repair will follow.”
“As far as we are aware diversions will remain in place for the time being.”
The arch is looked after by Edzell Village Improvement Society.
A member of the group refused to comment when asked what the plans were for repairing the arch.
Earl of Dalhousie
The Dalhousie Arch spans the road into Edzell village from the south.
Erected in 1887, it commemorates the 13th Earl of Dalhousie, John William Ramsay, and his wife, who died within hours of each other from different causes.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.15pm, police received a report of a lorry hitting an archway in Edzell.
“There are no reports of any injuries, however, the arch has been damaged.
“The road is currently closed with a diversion in place.”
