There will be no further action taken by police after a hot air balloon caused young ospreys to flee a nest in Angus.
The matter was reported to police on Wednesday night after the Virgin balloon came within a few metres of the osprey nest at Balgavies Loch near Forfar.
Virgin Balloon Flights claimed their pilot had “no idea” the nest was there.
A police statement said that, following its inquiries, there was “no criminality identified”.
The incident occurred at around 8.45pm at the legally protected site.
Witnesses said they observed people taking photographs from the balloon as it descended towards the nest, causing four of the rare birds to flee.
The police statement said: “Police Scotland carried out enquiries into the incident and there was no criminality identified.
“We would urge people to be aware of local nesting sites before taking part in any outdoor activity that may disturb our wildlife.
“Legislation is in place to protect wildlife and all reports of criminality will be investigated.”
