A drink-driver shocked passers-by after driving round a Brechin car park with his brother on the roof of his vehicle.
Krzysztof Grzeslak almost hit a lamp post and other vehicles before puncturing two of his tyres when he swerved to avoid one terrified motorist trying to escape the car park of the town’s Lidl store after seeing the 25-year-old’s night time antics.
Grzeslak was then thrown in jail for more than a month after failing to comply with the preapration of social work reports.
But the first offender escaped an extended prison term after a sheriff imposed a community order involving 200 hours of unpaid work and banned him from the road for a year.
Grzeslak, foremrly of Hillview in Brechin, pleaded guilty at Forfar sheriff court to driving dangerously in Brechin on May 21, with excess alcohol – 72 microgrammes against a legal limit of 22 – and driving without insurance.
The court heard various witnesses were in the supermarket car park shortly before 10pm when they saw a Ford Mondeo arrive at speed, before it skidded to a halt.
The accused then drove straight at another car, hitting a kerb which caused both nearside tyres to burst.
Grzeslak’s brother was then carried a short distance on the roof of the Ford before the two men spoke to witnesses, who smelled alcohol on their breath and police were contacted.
Grzeslak’s solicitor said his client had not been drinking since the offence and recognised his actions that night had been “ridiculous”.
Sentencing, Sheriff Pino Di Emidio said: “You were showing off.”
