The very best of Angus fare, from its raw ingredients to spectacular finished dishes, was served up to Glamis Castle visitors over the weekend.
In what was the biggest Taste Angus Food and Drink Festival yet, an array of culinary talent also demonstrated their skills to foodie fans and families visiting the two-day event.
They included celebrity chef and food campaigner Nick Nairn who turned his talent towards locally sourced grouse and game, just days after Angus estates marked the start of a new shooting season on the Glorious Twelfth.
Nick Nairn was one of the attractions in the food demonstration theatre sponsored by Angus Glens Moorland Group, where the journey ‘from hill to plate’ of local game was explored, with the help of the group’s gamekeepers.
Lianne MacLennan, co-ordinator of the Angus Glens Moorland Group said: “We were delighted to sponsor Taste Angus’ food demonstration theatre.
“The event is getting bigger and more imaginative all the time,” said Lianne.
“As a group which works with our local communities in Angus, it is be a great opportunity to explain how the beautiful game meat from the area is reared for the larder and how, as well as providing food for the table, it also brings tourists from all over the world and a vital economic spin-off for the glen communities.
Another well-known local figure demonstrating his astonishing culinary expertise was Jamie Scott, who is now at the helm of his own acclaimed restaurant, The Newport.
Jamie, originally from Arbroath, was BBC Masterchef: The Professionals champion of 2014 and the festival line-up also included former Young Scottish chef of the Year Adam Newth; BBC Masterchef: The Professionals runner-up, Brian Mcleish, Praveen Kumar and the team from Sinclair’s Catering Ltd.
Local bands, children’s activities and field sports also featured at an event blessed with two days of good weather.
The spectacular Glamis setting gave the area’s food producers an excellent platform from which to promote their own artisan offerings.
They included local ales, gins, smokies and oysters, many of which have achieved award-winning status and wide acclaim.
