Angus Heritage Week gets off to a strong start with the chance to meet acclaimed Glasgow-based ceramic artist James Rigler.
Rigler was commissioned to launch new artwork at Hospitalfield in Arbroath and will launch The Dancing Stones for the autumn season open weekend.
He got to know Hospitalfield during a recent residency and has been commissioned to make a new artwork which will be part of Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design.
The Meet Your Maker event is an opportunity to hear about his innovative approach.
Rigler will speak about the processes he uses when working with ceramic; how he borrows and subverts techniques found in industrial situations and often makes handmade objects which have an architectural or factory-made feel.
He will talk about the specific materials he has used in recent projects including metal as visible support structure and domestic plastic surfaces as facades.
He will also explain his interest in the history of some of the materials that he uses.
