Angus threw its doors open to the rich heritage of the county at the weekend, offering the opportunity for visitors to learn about everything from old cars to elephants walking the streets of the county.
A host of properties, some very familiar but others usually rarely accessible to the general public, participated in the doors open day element of the area’s Heritage Week.
Events included a first ever showcase of memorabilia in the village of Inverkeilor after a good response for items from locals – including photographs of circus elephants strolling through the village in 1940.
Arbroath lifeboat station, the Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club at Glamis, Angus Archives, Forfar sheriff court and Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre were among around 20 participating venues.
At The Retreat in Glenesk, a Keeping the Thread event welcomed a trio of experts in the field of textiles.
Janet Rae, Crissie White and Sue Waddicor spoke to visitors about their love of knitting, quilting and embroidery, passing on valuable hints and tips.
The varied programme continues this week with a range of exhibitions in local museums, drop-in days at the Angus Archives at Restenneth, and talks on a variety of subjects.
