A woman has died following a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on a footpath in Montrose.
The incident happened around 8.20pm on Saturday December 11, when a black Honda Civic sport collided with a woman walking on the footpath in Newhame Road, in the Borrowfield area of the town.
Locals reported seeing a large police presence, with parts of the road cordoned off at different times as officers from Angus gathered evidence. Police are now appealing for information about the death.
The Scottish Ambulance Service attended, but the 61-year-old woman died at the scene.
Her family have been informed, with floral tributes left at the scene.
Skidmarks were also seen on the grass nearby, and markings on the pavement left by police officers.
Sergeant Gordon Dickson, of the Tayside Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family of the woman who died.
“Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone who may have seen anything that will help with our investigation to get in touch.
Dash-cam footage
“In particular, anyone who may have seen the car before the crash and has dash-cam footage, is asked to contact us.
“If you can assist with our enquiries please call us on 101, quoting incident 3298 of Saturday December 11.
One local woman who declined to be named said: “I came home about 10.30pm past the bridge to my left and saw police there, they were in and about the footpath near the railway bridge.
“My neighbour said when she came home the road beside the park at Borrowfield had been completely closed off to traffic.
Police searching field and wooded area
“There was a police rescue van and they were searching the grass. There was other police under the bridge itself, it was dark but they were using a torch.
“They were spreading out looking in the field towards all the trees. I did wonder what had happened when I saw the police heading out that far from the road.
“It’s just awful to hear someone has died. I had my young son in the car and now I’ve had to tell him he’s quite upset.”
