A magnificent gate guard at an Angus graveyard is set for the chop after its partner succumbed to storm force winds earlier this year.
The beech tree on the north side of the gates to Letham cemetery will be cut down next week after Angus Council experts discovered it was also in danger of toppling.
In late January, the tail end of Storm Gertrude claimed the twin beech on the south side of the graveyard entrance.
A council spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the second beech is unstable and the decision has been made to fell it.
“Arrangements are in place to undertake this work from Tuesday September 13 and a road closure will be in place for the duration of the works.”
