Robert Watson, who was well-known in Angus and the Mearns, has died after a short illness.
Robert Watson was born at Riccarjohnston Farm in Lanarkshire, moving to Ironshill near Arbroath in 1946, taking a dairy herd.
He ran the farm in partnership with his father until after his death and continued to farm there until he and his wife moved to Fairfield Mains near Froickheim prior to his retirement.
In his younger days Mr Watson was a keen member of the young Farmers Club movement.
He was one time chairman of St Cyrus JAC and later honorary president of Arbroath JAC.
He was also one time president of the Arbroath branch of the National Farmers Union, Arbroath Antiquary and History Club and the Arbroath Speakers Club.
In addition he was also a member of various local and national organisations including The National Trust for Scotland, The Humanist Society of Scotland, The Scottish Wildlife Trust and Probus Club.
Together with his wife Alison he was a keen traveller and in retirement enjoyed visiting many places including trips to the Antarctic and Machu Piccu, although always insisting Scotland was his favourite holiday destination.
He is survived by his wife Alison, three daughters, seven grandchildren and a great-grandson.
