A “lucky” gun dog which was lost down a hole during a shoot day was saved after a gamekeeper somehow heard its heavy breathing.
Cocker spaniel Jazz was on the moors of the Invermark Estate near Brechin with picker Karen when she went missing.
Karen knew the area in which the dog disappeared but still could not trace her.
Luckily, estate head keeper Gary went in search of the animal and found her by following the sound of her breathing.
His team dug around the pipe hole in which Jazz had become lodged and freed the lucky pooch.
Shamefaced and filthy, she was otherwise unharmed.
The group, which has been dubbed “Invermark heroes” described Tuesday’s drama on the Angus Glens Moorland Group Facebook page.
The posting stated: “A massive well done to TeamInvermark who helped one of the pickers up locate and save her little cocker spaniel, Jazz, after she went missing on the hill yesterday afternoon during a shoot day.
“Karen knew the area where Jazz went missing but had no idea where she could be.
“After some time of searching, headkeeper Garry finally located her by hearing her breathing. She had gone missing down a pipe hole on the hill.
“Karen called the team ‘Invermark heroes’ and could not thank them enough for saving her beloved dog.
“She thanked the team for digging her out and to all the on the shoot for taking the time to search! “What a team, one lucky little dog and owner!”
“So lovely to have a happy ending to what could have been a tragic or unanswered ending. Well done all!!”
