The South Angus Parents of Adults with Learning Disabilities (SAPALD) has been awarded charitable status.
The organisation was established in 2013 and identified areas where it can work together with Angus Council and care providers in the development of services for adults with learning disabilities.
Peter Burke, chair of the Trustees, said charity status means the group can move ahead with its long-term plans to ensure that all adults with learning disabilities in the area have secure, permanent residential accommodation.
He said: “We will continue to work with the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership with a view to securing a property for residential respite care.
“This would initially serve our local area but could also provide respite services across Angus, and beyond.”
SAPALD was set up by a group of parent carers in Carnoustie and Monifieth.
A spokesperson for the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership said it was pleased to learn that SAPALD has been granted charitable status.
