Terrified gym-goers have told of their shock after a fight broke out at a luxury gym.
Those who saw the brawl at the David Lloyd gym in Monifieth revealed staff rushed to break up two men after an emergency alarm was sounded on Sunday.
One off-duty doctor admitted he was left terrified when he had to step in to treat one of the men’s injuries.
Another witness claimed a second man, who was taken to Ninewells Hospital, appeared to be unconscious.
‘Terrifying violence’
The doctor described the fight as “sickening” and said: “(The injured man) was in an awful state.
“It was actually quite frightening.
“It’s really terrifying to see violence like that.
“I think the ambulance and police were called after that, but I didn’t stick around long because it was actually quite sickening.”
‘They were all just as scared as I was’
Another startled onlooker at the Ethiebeaton Park facility said: “I was just doing some weights in the weight section and there were these two guys there.
“They were big guys, but not like bodybuilders.
“They just went at it, exchanging heavy punches.
“There were a number of people around and they were all just as scared as I was.
“They started moving towards me and soon they were only yards away.
“Then one guy just completely flattened the other one – left him lying there, not moving, blood around his mouth.”
Another witness, who helped separate the men, added: “I started to help split the fight up and helped the guy that was knocked out.
“Someone hit the panic alarm and staff were there as soon as possible with a defibrillator, first aid etcetera.”
Zero tolerance
A spokesperson for David Lloyd Clubs confirmed first aid had been administered.
They added: “Health and safety is our number one priority.
“We expect the highest possible standards of behaviour from members, their guests, and employees, and have zero tolerance for any act of aggression in our clubs.
“We can confirm that an incident between two members occurred in our Dundee club on January 2.
“Our team were present within one minute of the alarm being raised; diffused the situation and administered first aid.
“We will be supporting the police with their inquiries and as this is now a police matter we are unable to comment further.”
