A motorist in his 20s has died after a crash on a dual carriageway in Angus on Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred on the A90, just north of Forfar, and was reported at around 7.45am.
The car had been travelling southbound and left the road north of Forfar before going up an embankment where it came to rest on its roof.
It is understood that the accident may have happened in the early hours of the morning and that the tragedy was discovered by a local farmer.
The male driver is understood to have been the only occupant of the vehicle.
The incident occurred near the road’s junctions with the B957 Tannadice exit and the A926 Old Kirriemuir Road leading from Forfar.
Mototorists were warned of possible delays after the “serious” crash.
BEAR Scotland put in place a single lane closure around the accident scene. Northbound traffic was unaffected.
Police accident investigators remained on the scene for several hours.
A police spokesperson said: “Next of kin have now been informed and formal identification will be carried out in due course.
“One lane of the southbound carriageway was closed for investigations surrounding the collision to be carried out.
“Inquiries are ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
