Angus farmer John Gray celebrated his 100th birthday with family, friends and a Clydesdale horse. Mr Gray, a war veteran who is known to many as “Pop”, welcomed around 100 people to a full day of celebrations at Auchrennie Farm, near Carnoustie. And Geordie, a four-year-old horse stabled at Balmalcolm in Fife, was a welcome reminder of Mr Gray’s early years. He said: “I worked three of these horses when I was a boy. “I was really quite delighted to see Geordie.” Mr Gray puts his long life down to porridge, avoiding alcohol, enjoying “everything in moderation.” He still enjoys “being out and about.” The celebration was joined by Lady Fiona Fraser of Carmyllie and Angus Council’s depute provost Alex King. Mr King said: “John is a bit of a local celebrity and a lot of folk turned out for his birthday party.”
