A dad whose son has a severe genetic disorder has organised a Courier Country charity walk.
Andy Aird and 12 of his colleagues will be walking 26 miles across their service area from Leuchars Station to RM Condor in Arbroath.
Mr Aird is part of the CarillionAmey team from Leuchars and the walk will raise money for the charity Haemophilia Scotland.
The walk will get under way on October 22 but the group have already beaten their initial £500 target and hope to double that.
Mr Aird said: “The charity was chosen as my son has severe Haemophilia A with inhibitors.
“In the past and particular just recently, Haemophilia Scotland have been great with their support and information regarding his condition.
“It is a charity close to me and I would like to give something back.”
Haemophilia A is a genetic deficiency in clotting factor VIII, which causes increased bleeding and usually affects males.
Of people with severe Haemophilia A, about 30% will develop inhibitors; among those with mild and moderate haemophilia A the figure is about 9%.
An inhibitor is a type of antibody that prevents factor replacement treatment from working.
Individuals with more severe Haemophilia suffer more severe and more frequent bleeding.
The CarillionAmey team from Leuchars Station and RM Condor have arranged to complete a charity walk covering approximately 26 miles across our service delivery area.
Mr Aird added: “We are anticipating completing the walk within 10 hours hopefully and we will be wearing Red Haemophilia t-shirts and carrying collection buckets for donations enroute to help our cause.
“It is quite a large feat as most of us sit at our desks for the majority of our day and we have been training quite hard recently for the forthcoming walk.”
On behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, CarillionAmey look after the Armed Forces by delivering essential infrastructure and housing services.
