A man has been jailed for 13 months in the wake of a “terrifying” attack on his former partner.
Tomasz Gul will also spend six months on supervised release after incidents in his adopted home town of Montrose in which he grabbed the woman by the throat and pinned her to the floor.
The 37-year-old Polish national, who has been in Scotland for around a decade, appeared for sentence before Sheriff Gregor Murray at Forfar having previously admitted an indictment relating to domestic abuse offences against his partner between June and August 2013.
He also pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening manner towards a man at a house in Ferry Street, Montrose in November 2014 and making threats towards his partner on the same date.
Tree cutter Gul, of St Johns Place, Montrose is currently in custody serving two other prison terms, with a scheduled release date of March.
Defence solicitor Nick Markowski said: “When he is at liberty he is someone with a strong work ethic and he has now been in Scotland for over ten years.
“The offences go back some time and the first in June 2013 happened during the course of a separation with his partner in what was an on/off relationship,” added Mr Markowski.
“The other incidents involved his partner and her new boyfriend.
“Subsequent to these offences being committed there has been a lot of water under the bridge, much of it turbulent and much of it troubled due to his alcohol intake.
“He is currently in Perth prison and is not drinking and his intention is to return to the Angus area.
“He has made no attempt to contact his ex-partner for around 18 months.”
Sheriff Murray told Gul: “The cases before the court relate to domestic offending towards the same lady and the matter in 2014 was aggravated by the fact that there was an existing Community Payback Order in force.
“Charge one on the indictment must have been a terrifying incident for your former partner.
“The other charges are not so serious when taken in isolation, but must have also been terrifying for her when looked at in the context of the offences against the same lady.”
