A man who tendered counterfeit banknotes in Dundee, Fife and Angus has been spotted passing more fake currency in the Mearns.
Police have warned the Stonehaven public to be on the lookout for counterfeit banknotes after some were tendered in the town.
A number of reports have also been received of counterfeit £50 notes being tendered in shops for low-cost items in Inverurie and Aberdeen.
All of the counterfeit notes have the serial number AA294395 — the same as those tendered by a man in Glenrothes, Dundee and Montrose.
Constable Angela Dow said: “We would like to advise staff to check any high-value bank notes which are tendered before giving change, we would also encourage any staff members or shop owners to report any such instances to Police Scotland.”
It is believed that the same male suspect has been tendering the notes at various stores.
He is described as 5 foot 7 or 8 inches tall, with short dark hair, wearing long grey shorts and a t-shirt, with distinctive tattoos on his neck.
