A young Angus labourer has become an internet hit after an eye-watering encounter with one of the tools of his trade.
Forfar’s Innes Black was game for the hard hat challenge doing the rounds on building sites across the globe.
The task involves a hard hat being placed on the end of a shovel, which is then balanced on a piece of wood.
The workman then attempts to catapult the hat onto his head by standing on the handle of the shovel.
Encouraged by online clips of successful hard hat challengers, 19-year-old Innes gave the task a go during a break on a site in Angus – with disastrous results that have left male viewers of his attempt crossing their legs in sympathy.
Innes explained: “It was just a bit of fun, I thought I’d give it a go and hoped I could manage it – but it didn’t work out that way.”
The teenager unfortunately put too much vigour into the stamp on the handle and as the blue hard hat ballooned over his head, the metal shovel came up to smack the former Forfar Academy pupil square between the legs.
His mishap has gone viral online, with interest from as far afield as Canada in the clip.
“This was my first and last attempt at the hard hat challenge.
“It was pretty sore – I was out of it for a wee bit, but the other guys couldn’t do very much for laughing.
“I shared the phone clip at the time, but now it’s popped up online and seems to have gone a bit mad.
“I’ll not be having another go at it though,” said Innes.
