An Angus man caught with a folding knife in Forfar Sheriff Court will be sentenced later this month after a similar offence calls at the High Court in Paisley.
Jonathon Gourley appeared from custody at Forfar before Sheriff Gregor Murray and admitted the charge of having the blade in the courthouse on March 21.
At that time he was on a bail order granted less than two months earlier in connection with the Paisley offence.
His appearance followed an incident in which the 43-year-old, from Kirriemuir, threatened to “wipe out” Glasgow Airport in the wake of last November’s Paris attacks after claiming he had just returned from fighting in Syria.
Canadian Gourley was sentenced to a Community Payback Order and unpaid work for the airport threat after telling shocked airline staff he had spent two decades in the military.
He told Easy Jet workers he wanted to buy a plane ticket to Canada, but when advised he was too drunk to be sold a ticket became aggressive and said to staff: “I could wipe you out, I’m very high up in the military.”
Part of Gourley’s explanation was that he was still suffering the mental and physical effects of an alleged attacked at his Angus home last October.
A jury took less than an hour to acquit two men of charges of abducting, assaulting and robbing Gourley at Cantsmill Farm Cottage, Kirriemuir.
Following the conclusion of the trial, The Courier revealed Gourley had been detained after giving evidence and charged with possessing a blade in the court.
At the latest calling of the case, his lawyer said the master carpenter was awaiting sentence at Paisley next week for the “directly analogous” matter.
He added: “He is still on the CPO but he failed to appear at a sheriff and jury trial at Paisley and then appeared and pleaded guilty to a directly analogous matter.
“Sentence has been deferred there for one week.”
Deferring sentence until November 24, Sheriff Murray continued the accused’s bail.
He said the adjournment would allow the court to consider the background reports prepared for the other case.
