A Montrose teenager admitted carrying out an assault on a 17-year-old in the town.
Daniel Laird, 18, of Condor Crescent, admitted assaulting a man in Castle Street on April 20 by punching him on the head, pulling him to the ground and repeatedly kicking and punching him on the head to his injury.
A co-accused, who can not be named for legal reasons, had previously admitted his part in the assault.
Defence agent Nick Markowski said: “They met by coincidence, something was shouted and they came together.”
The court heard that Laird could not join the Army until his court case was concluded. Sheriff Gregor Murray fined Laird £200.
