Police are investigating claims of suspicious night-time activity in Arbroath.
Reports have emerged of knocking at doors and the handles of properties being tried in the Kirkton area of the town in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
It led to a flurry of activity on social media including claims of similar incidents in the Timmergreens and St Thomas Crescent areas in recent weeks.
Stacey Brown posted on the Arbroath Online Facebook page: “I’ve just been woken up to someone knocking on my front door and they then went on to try my handle twice.
“Luckily my door is always locked. This is in Kirkton area.
“Just to make others aware if you stay in the area.”
“I have contacted the police and been told they will send officers out to check streets and gardens.
”Actually makes my skin crawl to think people are creeping round the streets at night and trying people’s doors.”
Follow-up comments have suggested similar incidents have occurred over the last few days.
Police Scotland advised people with similar concerns to contact the force on 101.
A spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland received a report of suspicious activity at Beechwood Road, Arbroath on 6 December at 1am.
“Officers carried out a search of the area and no one was traced and advice was provided to the complainer.”
