Local Loons and far-flung fans from around the world have been given a chance to be in with the bricks at the hallowed terrace of an Angus football club.
The Forfar Athletic Wall of Fame initiative was launched just in time for Christmas and club officials have expressed their delight with the response with a stream of emails inquiring about bricks from all over the country as well as a number already having been snapped up in the club shop.
Bricks come with their own unique Certificate of Authenticity and the bricks will be engraved in the near future on a special area of wall on the main stand next to the tunnel area so will be very prominent within the ground.
Director Ross Graham said: “Forfar Athletic FC are delighted with the initial demand for this new initiative which gives our supporters the opportunity to have their personalised brick placed in a prestigious location at Station Park and become part of the history — and the future — of Forfar Athletic FC.
“It’s not only our loyal, local supporters that have are keen to get their name up on our wall of fame, as there have been orders for bricks coming from as far away as Wales and even Australia which shows that Forfar have a genuine worldwide fan base.”
The wall of fame was launched by three generations of Loons stars, and famed mascot Baxter the Bridie.
Former captain, manager and record appearance holder Ian McPhee, who made 536 appearances for Forfar in two stints between 1978 and 1987 seasons and 1991 and 1997, bought the first brick in the wall.
Jack Coburn, who played in the early 1960s and is the club’s fourth top scorer in one season, netting 34 goals in 1960-61, also helped with the launch. No Forfar player has managed to come close to netting a similar number in one season since his achievement 55 years ago.
The third Loon was current team captain Stuart Malcolm, who is in his third stint at the club and has made over 90 appearances for Forfar.
People can contact corporate@forfarathletic.co.uk for more information about the bricks, which are £50 each, and payment can be taken by phone.
