A veteran folk musician has been forced to change the name of his musical project – from his own – given the online prominence of Scottish darts champion Gary Anderson.
Mr Anderson, 49, has been a stalwart of the local scene for years, a multi-instrumentalist playing in various bands since the age of 16.
He has found fans in the likes of Fairground Attraction’s Eddi Reader and is a regular at folk clubs and festivals throughout Scotland and Ireland.
“I’ve been gigging for over 30 years and doing solo gigs under my own name for around 15 years,” said Mr Anderson.
“There are a few reasons for the change but chiefly it was due to top darts player Gary Anderson. It was actually Dougie MacLean’s wife who brought the difficulty in finding me online to my attention a couple of years ago.
“I had meant to change to something else but nothing really jumped at me as appropriate.”
Although his namesake from the darts world has ultimately forced his hand, Mr Anderson admitted that the nature of his forthcoming album, due this May, fitted with a change of ID.
Mr Anderson’s new chosen moniker is Kinnaber Junction. “It’s a railway junction about 100 yards from our house,” he said. “It used to be the point where the east and west lines converged before heading north to Aberdeen.
“For me the album is like a convergence of ideas and musicians who I’ve wanted to work with and therefore seems like the ideal name.”
Besides his ongoing solo project, Mr Anderson also currently provides vocals and guitar in rock band F’n’3Gs.
