The family of a man who died in his sleep in Brechin have been barred from his funeral.
Paul Clark, 34, was on the couch at his home last month when husband Christopher, 26, realised he had stopped breathing.
A post-mortem examination revealed his cause of death was linked to the genetic disorder porphyria.
Paul’s parents Jim and Eunice and his brother Scott, who live in Blairgowrie, said they were devastated to learn their son’s funeral will be private.
Scott said: “We don’t even know yet when or where the funeral is. All we want to do is attend the funeral to be allowed to grieve properly for our son and brother. We want to say a proper farewell to him but we’re being prevented from doing that by Paul’s husband.”
Scott admitted there had been a rift between Paul and his family.
Jim added: “All we want to be able to do is go to Paul’s funeral to say a proper farewell to him.”
Chris said: “It was always Paul’s position that should anything ever happen to him he did not want his parents, or anyone else from his family, at his funeral.
“I’m simply carrying out Paul’s own wishes by saying his family can’t attend.
“The funeral hasn’t been arranged but it will be private and I don’t want Paul’s family there because that was what he wanted.”
Chris said there has been no funeral date set.
