Brave Angus youngster Kenzy Oliver is battling complications following his liver transplant operation.
The Arbroath seven-year-old underwent the lifesaving surgery in mid-December after being flown by air ambulance to London’s King’s College Hospital.
Warddykes primary school pupil Kenzy had been delighting parents Nicky and Michelle and medical staff with his progress, but the family have now reported a setback for the plucky young lad after the organ began to show signs of rejection.
Kenzy and his parents have been flooded with messages of support on social media after posting regular facebook updates following the transplant, but dad Nicky has revealed that the latest results of a day 56 biopsy have given cause for concern.
Nicky posted: “Kenzy shows signs of rejection but turns out that it was worse than they first thought, but it does look like it’s getting slowly better.
“And now his bile ducts aren’t working and is most likely the reason he has had bad numbers with his bloods,” he added.
The family now face an anxious wait as experts decide how to respond to the difficulties, with his parents fearing that further surgery may be required.
They are set to continue their vigil at his London bedside and friends of the family, including pals from his Arbroath primary, have been continuing to offer messages of encouragement.
As well as the outpouring of local support, Kenzy received a new year boost when stars of the television his show Mrs Brown’s Boys sent him a get well video message.
The youngster is a huge fan of the show and, after managing to make contact with programme producers, stars Brendan O’Carroll and Jennifer Gibney recorded the personal message.
O’Carroll said: “We wanted to give a little message to Kenzy Oliver, just to let you know that we are all thinking about you — me, Jenny and everyone at Mrs Brown’s Boys.
“We hope you’re going from strength to strength, getting better and better, and not driving all the nurses in the hospital crazy.”
