A Forfar teen who had a seizure onboard a bus from Dundee has thanked the driver and passengers who stepped in to help.
Alishya Agnew was travelling home from Dundee College on the Stagecoach 20D bus service on Tuesday when she had the seizure.
The cookery student fell to the floor, hitting her shoulder off a pole and dislocating it in the process.
Luckily, fellow passengers noticed the incident and immediately stepped in to help her.
One passenger helped the 19-year-old call her parents, David and Tracey, while the Stagecoach driver pulled over and called an ambulance.
Tracey said: “I got a phone call from her saying that she was having a seizure on the bus, but her words were really slurred.
“Somebody else, another passenger called Morgan, took the phone after and started explaining everything too me.
Seizure left Forfar teen ‘dazed and confused’
“She told me that they were out at Douglastown on the slip road.”
The seizure is not Alishya’s first – she had another at home in 2019 – but the incident still shocked her family who quickly made their way to the scene.
Gary said: “As soon as we arrived I ran straight on to the bus. She was a bit dazed and confused.
“Other passengers told me what happened. Apparently the seizure lasted about two minutes.”
Surgery needed for teen’s broken shoulder
Alishya was soon helped off of the bus so it could continue it’s journey while medics from the Scottish Ambulance Service checked her over.
She was taken to Ninewells Hospital with her mum, where X-rays confirmed that her shoulder was broken and dislocated from the fall.
Doctor’s told the student that surgery would be required, so Alishya was kept overnight before being taken for the operation on Wednesday morning.
Now as she recovers at home Alishya and her family have reached out to thank the bus driver and passengers helped.
Tracey added: “The bus driver was brilliant, so were the passengers. We’re all dead thankful.
“The way things are now, a lot of people would turn a blind eye, but everyone really helped out.
“I’m almost glad it happened on the bus because I dread to think what would’ve happened if she had been on her own.”
A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Scotland said: “We are truly proud of the actions of our driver, and have passed on the appreciation from the passenger’s mother.
“The safety of our customers and staff is of the highest importance to us, and we’re proud to serve our local communities.”
