A Sunday morning search for a teenager who fell from Arbroath cliffs on Saturday has failed to find anything.
The search parameters have now been widened as the search for the 18-year-old male is extended further up and down the coastline.
After this length of time, HM Coastguard will not resume an active search and rescue operation but units may be involved in humanitarian search activities.
Chief Inspector David McIntosh said: “Immediate coastline searches at Arbroath cliffs have been carried out this morning involving coastguard and lifeboat teams.
“Moving forward today, the search parameters will be widened as we extend our operation further up and down the coastline.
“We remain in close contact with his family at this very difficult time.
“Anyone with information should contact police on 101.”
A multi-agency search was scrambled following the incident which happened around 1pm.
A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: “Aberdeen Coastguard Operations Centre coordinated an intensive search of the area during Saturday afternoon involving the Coastguard rescue helicopter based at Prestwick, four Coastguard rescue teams from Montrose, St Andrews, Carnoustie and Stonehaven as well as RNLI lifeboats from Montrose and Arbroath.
“The search was suspended during the hours of darkness and resumed on Sunday morning with nothing found.
“The incident has been handed over to Police Scotland.”
