Anti-climb guards are being installed at an Angus library after the roof was damaged by vandals.
Slates were pulled from the roof of the B-listed Brechin Library on St Ninian’s Square last week as witnesses described seeing teenagers running on top of the building.
It’s understood repairs from other damage were already being carried out when the vandals struck on Thursday, but it is not known if it is the same group responsible for both incidents.
Now, Angus Council says anti-climb equipment will be installed as part of the repairs, while police patrols in the area will be increased.
Anti-climb guards at Brechin Library come during ‘extreme financial pressure’
A council spokesman said “Damage has been caused to the Brechin Library, which follows reports of people being seen on the roof of the building.
“Repairs are being carried out and we are looking to install anti-climb guards at the building.
“Clearly, this all comes at additional expense to the public purse during a time of extreme financial pressure.”
He added: “Two incidents of vandalism at the library have been reported to Police Scotland.
“We would appeal to anyone with information that could assist their inquiries to contact them..
“No one should tolerate vandalism no matter what form it takes.”
The library remains open as normal.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are ongoing into vandalism to the roof of a building in St Ninian’s Square, Brechin, which was reported to us on Thursday.
“Anyone with information that could assist officers is asked to call us on 101, quoting incident number 1833 of Thursday, 10 November, 2022.”
