A 48-year-old man has died in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorbike in Monikie.

Emergency services rushed to the B961, at the junction with Panmure Road, around 8.10pm on Tuesday, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured in the collision, which also involved an MG5 electric car.

The Angus road was closed for several hours while police carried out investigations and re-opened about 3.30am on Wednesday.

Monikie resident James Kay says drivers tried to help at the scene before the arrival of the emergency services.

‘My heart goes out to the man’s loved ones’

The 69-year-old said: “I came out of my house immediately after the incident as I heard a noise and folk speaking at the junction.

“A few vehicles had stopped to try and help before the emergency services arrived.

“There is a defibrillator in the old public phone box and I alerted one of the drivers that was there and they went to get it.

“We’re devastated that someone has lost their life and my heart goes out to the man’s loved ones.”

One woman said there was a big emergency response at the scene.

“There was a number of police at the scene and other emergency services in attendance.

“They were all here really quickly, given where we are situated.

“We were told on Wednesday morning that there had been a fatality, it was devastating to hear someone had lost their life.”

“Our inquiries are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone with information who has not already contacted police to get in touch.

“I am also appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have dash-cam footage to contact us.”
