It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Arbroath.
That’s after the hard working band of local volunteers saw their effort rewarded with the turnout of families to the town lights switch-on on Friday night.
The festive mood began in the afternoon when stalls were set up for an open-air market on the High Street.
And as excitement began to build, the growing crowd was treated to a variety of entertainment.
It included performances by Notorious Dance, Dance JC and Red Rock Music.
Arbroath Pipe Band welcomed Santa to Kirk Square just after the lights switch-on.
Maureen Beedie of the lights group said thousands of pounds have been invested in brightening up the High Street this year.
“Our small group of volunteers have been working tirelessly all year to prepare, renew, put up the lights and organise this event,” said Maureen.
“It costs approximately £3,000 to put up and take down the lights each year and this year we have added approximately £7,000 of new lights and fittings.”
Forfar and Kirriemuir weekend fun
And there was more festive fun on other Angus towns over the weekend.
Forfar and Kirriemuir both staged their lights event on Saturday.
There was a festive market around The Cross in Forfar as well as indoor stalls in the Queen’s Hotel.
Forfar Action Network put on entertainment during the afternoon.
And in Kirriemuir there was also an afternoon of activity in the lead-up to the main event.
A Christmas fair ran in the Guide Hall from 10am to 3.30pm, with Santa’s grotto in Kirrie Connections from noon to 4pm.
DJ Derek then provided music in The Square from 4pm, before Santa switched on the town display.
