Police inquiries ‘ongoing’
A spokesperson for Police Scotland told The Courier on Tuesday evening: “We were called around 1.10pm on Tuesday to a report of a death in the Reid Park area of Forfar.
“A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection and inquiries are ongoing.”
Police have so far been unable to confirm to The Courier the age or gender of the person who died.
The force has been contacted for a further update.
One resident said: “When I came in [on Tuesday] afternoon I saw that there was an ambulance, a police van and three cars at my gate.
“They were gone when I came back out to see what was going on, but my wife said that there was another police car there when she came back from work.
“We’re not really used to seeing that kind of thing here, it’s quite quiet – not that different to any other part of town.”
Another passer-by said: “I came through the park and I saw that a section of it was cordoned off.
“There was one police van sitting by the cordon with an officer inside.
“It was a wooded area of the park that had been taped off, just to the left of the entrance from Hillside Road.
“When I came further up I noticed that one of the houses on the street also had police tape over the gate and the a police car in the driveway.
“It wasn’t really clear what was going on but it certainly seemed serious.”
Another eyewitness, who attended the scene later in the day, added: “It was very eerie, pitch black with just the light from the headlights of the police car which was on guard amongst the the trees.
“I saw some plainclothes officers on foot and another car parked where the cordon was at the house.”
