The A926 between Kirriemuir and Forfar was closed on Sunday as engineers responded to a “high volume” gas leak.
The road between Maryton and Padanaram was closed following the leak, which was reported at around 5am on Sunday,
A spokeswoman for SNG, which manages Scotland’s gas network, said the leak was caused due to corroded pipe.
Repairs were completed to the pipe at around 4.30pm and the road reopened a short while after.
Temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place while work goes underway to repair the road.
An SGN spokeswoman told The Courier: “It’s a high volume gas leak. We made the decision to close the road.
“The leak was due to corrosion of the pipe.
“It was reported at 5:30am this morning.
“We’ve completed the repair and the road will reopen in the next 30 minutes.
“We’ll have temporary two-way traffic lights there while work to reinstate the road surface is completed.”
