A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital after being stabbed on Montrose High Street.
The incident took place at around 10pm on Wednesday.
The man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance and later released.
Locals said the road was shut for a time following the stabbing.
Police investigating High Street stabbing
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received a report of a serious assault on High Street, Montrose, around 10pm on Wednesday.
“A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital by ambulance and released following treatment.
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.13pm on December 28 to attend an incident on High Street, Montrose.
“We dispatched an ambulance to the scene and a male patient was transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.”
