An Angus teacher who allegedly told a 12-year-old pupil that her skirt would “end up on the floor” is set to face a conduct hearing.
The male teacher, who has not been named, is facing a series of claims about his behaviour while working at Montrose Academy.
The allegations include making pupils feel uncomfortable by touching them, and making references to sexual activity, drugs and alcohol.
It is also claimed he referred to two pupils’ dresses being “off by the end of the night”.
The allegations, which will be considered by a General Teaching Council for Scotland panel, span a period between August 2017 and October 2019.
It has not been confirmed whether the teacher still works at the school or whether any action was taken against him by Angus Council when the claims about his behaviour emerged.
Allegations against Montrose teacher in full
The allegations, as set out by the GTC, are as follows.
1. Between August 16 2017 and February 2 2018, while employed by Angus Council at Montrose Academy, the teacher did:
- When being shown a photograph of dresses on a mobile phone, say to Pupil A: “What’s the point in spending so much money on dresses when they boys would have them off by the end of the night?” or words to that effect.
- When teaching pupils about CAST diagrams, use the mnemonic: “All strippers take c***,” and/or: “All s**** take c***,” and/or: “All students take cannabis.”
- Say to various female pupils “twist my knob” when unlocking his classroom door.
- Discuss pupils drinking prosecco and vodka in the knowledge that they were under 18 years of age.
- When viewing a photograph of a dress on the mobile phone of Pupil D, say to her: “That dress will show off your curves nicely,” and: “It will be off by the end of the night anyway,” or words to that effect.
- Place his hand on the back of Pupil A and rub his hand up and down her back, causing her to feel uncomfortable.
2. On or around October 21 2019, when Pupil C, then aged 12 years old, was fixing her skirt, the teacher did say to her: “There’s no point of pulling it up when it’s gonna end up on the floor.”
3. On or around October 24 2019, the teacher did put his arm around Pupil C and place his hand on Pupil C’s buttock and/or hip, causing her to feel uncomfortable.
The fitness to teach conduct hearing will take place between February 7 and 10.
The GTC will consider claims the teacher has breached four sections of the code of professionalism and conduct.
If any allegations are found to be proven, it will then be up to the GTC whether to impose any sanctions – which could include being banned from the profession.
Angus Council declined to comment on the case when contacted by The Courier.
