Two Angus DJs have their eyes on the top of the charts after signing a deal with Polydor Records.

Brechin-based Keiran McLean, 27 and Christopher McComiskie, 22, also known as KIMMIC, have released their new single ‘Never Miss a Beat’ through the label.

Polydor are responsible for acts including ABBA, The 1975 and Billie Eilish.

Keiran, who is a manager at Sharkys in Montrose, said: “It’s a surreal feeling to be honest, we both can’t believe it.

“It was always a goal that we were pushing towards but we never thought we would do it so quickly.

“We’re both extremely grateful for the opportunity and super excited to get to work with the label.”

Keiran and Christopher, who works in insurance in Dundee, produced music individually before deciding to work together last April.

Keiran said: “We uploaded a video on our TikTok of ‘Never Miss a Beat’, using a sample from the Kaiser Chiefs song, with the intention of just posting it as a remix on our Soundcloud account.

“Within about an hour of it being online it started taking off, generating thousands of views.

“It’s crazy, we never thought we would get clearance to use the vocal from the band and the song was only meant to be a fun remix for people to add to their playlists.

“We eventually posted the track on Soundcloud and Jack Duckworth, an A&R at Polydor, got in touch with us about signing and here we are.”

Looking to the future

Following the release of their debut single, Keiran said: “It’s back to the grind to supply some more songs for the label.

“We have some gigs slotted in for various venues around the UK and Ireland but we’re waiting to see what happens after our first release.”

With the Big Weekend returning to Dundee in May, Keiran weighed up KIMMIC’s chances of appearing on the Dance Stage.

He said: “We can’t wait. We’re really looking forward to it and are glad Dundee are getting to host it again.

“In terms of playing at it, there’s nothing confirmed yet but that would be an absolute dream. Let’s see what happens!”
