A man has died following a fire at a sheltered housing complex in Forfar.
The blaze broke out at Andrew Smyth Gardens on Thursday evening.
Three fire appliances and ambulances were called to the scene at 6.15pm, with police arriving shortly after.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze by 10.15pm and both police and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) are now working to establish its cause.
Man pronounced dead at scene of Forfar fire
The man – who has not yet been named by police – was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received a report of a fire at a property on Andrew Smyth Gardens, Forfar, around 6.45pm on Thursday.
“Emergency services attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and a joint-investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.”

A spokesperson for SFRS added: “We received a call regarding a fire at Andrew Smyth Gardens at 6.15pm on Thursday.
“Three appliances attended and remained on scene until 10.15pm.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics were also in attendance.
The sheltered housing complex is owned and operated by Angus Council.
A spokesman for the local authority said: “We are assisting the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service with its investigation into the circumstances of this tragic incident and extend our sympathies to the family of the deceased.”
